Privacy Policy

Effective 23 July 2026

This policy explains what data DuckDeck collects, why, and who it's shared with, covering both this website (duckdeck.app) and the DuckDeck Windows app. DuckDeck is built to need as little of your data as possible: there are no accounts, no analytics, and no tracking inside the app itself. Downloading the free version does ask for your email address, and this policy explains exactly what happens with it.

Who's responsible for your data

Julian Derksen, trading as Dermax, is the data controller for the website and app described in this policy.

The website (duckdeck.app)

The website itself doesn't use cookies, doesn't run analytics, and doesn't ask you to create an account.

Fonts

Page text is rendered using Google Fonts, loaded directly from Google's servers. When you load the site, your browser connects to Google to fetch these fonts, which means your IP address is shared with Google in the process. See Google's privacy policy for how they handle that.

Hosting

The site is hosted on Cloudflare's infrastructure, which processes standard connection logs (such as IP address and request metadata) to serve the site and protect it from abuse, as part of normal web hosting.

Downloading the free version

The free version of DuckDeck is delivered through a free checkout handled by Polar, the same provider that handles DuckDeck Pro. To get the download link you provide an email address. No payment details are asked for and no password or account is created.

We use that email address to send you the download link, and to let you know about new versions and important changes to the app. If you ticked the box for it at checkout, we may also email you about DuckDeck Pro. You can unsubscribe from any of it at any time using the link in the email, or by writing to support@duckdeck.app, and we will delete your address on request.

Alongside your email address, Polar records when the download was requested. We use that to see how many people are downloading DuckDeck and when. We do not sell, rent or share this list with anyone.

Legal basis: sending you the download link is necessary to deliver what you asked for. Emails about new versions and about Pro rest on your consent, given at checkout, which you can withdraw at any time.

Contact

If you email support@duckdeck.app, we receive your email address and whatever you send us, and use it only to reply to you. We don't add you to any mailing list.

The contact form on duckdeck.app/contact is delivered by Web3Forms, which forwards your name, email address and message to our inbox. Web3Forms is based outside the EU and states that it does not store submissions after delivery. If you would rather not use it, emailing us directly reaches exactly the same place.

The DuckDeck app

Free version

The free version of DuckDeck runs entirely on your PC. It doesn't collect telemetry or crash reports, and doesn't send anything about your usage anywhere.

Pro version: license validation

If you've purchased DuckDeck Pro, the app makes one type of network connection: it sends your license key and a device identifier to our licensing provider, Polar, to confirm the key is valid and to enforce the limit of 3 activations per license. No other usage data is collected by the app.

Buying DuckDeck Pro

Checkout and license delivery for DuckDeck Pro are handled entirely by Polar (Polar Software Inc.), who acts as the merchant of record for the purchase. That means your payment goes to Polar, not to us directly, and Polar (not DuckDeck) is the one who sees and stores your payment details.

Based on Polar's own privacy policy, this typically includes your name, email address, billing address, and payment card details (the last processed via Stripe on Polar's behalf), which Polar uses to process the transaction, handle tax/VAT, prevent fraud, and email you your license key.

We receive your email address and purchase/license record from Polar so we can offer you support and, if needed, help recover a lost license key. We never receive or store your full payment details.

Because Polar (and Stripe) are based in the United States, this involves your data being transferred outside the EU/EEA. Please review Polar's privacy policy and Stripe's privacy policy for details on how they safeguard and handle your data.

How long we keep data

We keep the email addresses collected at download until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete yours. We keep support emails only as long as needed to help you, then delete them. Purchase and license records are retained by Polar for as long as required for accounting, tax, and fraud-prevention obligations, per their own policy.

Your rights

If you're in the EU/EEA, you have the right to access, correct, delete, or export the personal data we hold about you, and to object to how it's used. To exercise any of these, email support@duckdeck.app. For data held by Polar (e.g. payment and billing details), you may need to contact Polar directly. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Dutch data protection authority, the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens.

Children

DuckDeck isn't directed at children, and we don't knowingly collect data from anyone under 16.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes in a meaningful way, we'll update the date at the top of this page. Check back occasionally if you'd like to stay informed.
