Terms of Service
Effective 23 July 2026
These terms cover your use of duckdeck.app and the DuckDeck Windows app, both the Free and Pro versions. By downloading, installing, or using DuckDeck, you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use the app.
Who you're dealing with
Julian Derksen, trading as Dermax, publishes and licenses the DuckDeck software described in these terms.
- Address: Kostverlorenstraat 106, 2042 PL Zandvoort, the Netherlands
- Email: support@duckdeck.app
- Chamber of Commerce (KvK): 42134751
- VAT: NL005523986B94
What DuckDeck is
DuckDeck is a Windows tray app that changes your music volume with hotkeys, and can automatically duck your music when you talk in apps like Discord. It comes in two tiers:
- Free: obtained through a free checkout that asks only for your email address, no account or payment details needed, fully usable as is.
- Pro: a one-time purchase of €5.99, including VAT, that unlocks additional features with a license key.
License to use DuckDeck
We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to install and use DuckDeck on your own devices, for your own personal use. This license doesn't give you ownership of the software itself, and it doesn't allow you to resell, sublicense, or redistribute DuckDeck or your Pro license key to anyone else.
A DuckDeck Pro license key can be activated on up to 3 devices at a time. You can free up a device from your purchase portal if you need to move to a new one.
Buying DuckDeck Pro
Checkout, payment, and license key delivery for DuckDeck Pro are handled by our licensing partner, Polar. Polar acts as the merchant of record for the transaction, meaning the sale contract, invoicing, refunds, and any statutory right of withdrawal are governed by Polar's own Checkout Buyer Terms, not by us directly. Please review those terms at checkout, and see our Privacy Policy for how your purchase data is handled.
If you have a question about a charge or a lost license key, reach out to support@duckdeck.app and we'll help however we can.
Acceptable use
When using DuckDeck, please don't:
- Reverse engineer, decompile, or tamper with the app or its license validation, except where the law explicitly allows it.
- Share, resell, or publish a Pro license key for others to use.
- Use DuckDeck for any unlawful purpose, or in a way that could damage or overload our services or those of third parties.
We can suspend or revoke a license key if we reasonably believe it's being used in violation of these terms.
Ownership
DuckDeck, including its name, logo, and underlying code, is owned by Julian Derksen. Nothing in these terms transfers that ownership to you, aside from the limited license described above.
DuckDeck integrates with, but is not affiliated with or endorsed by, Spotify AB, Discord Inc., or any other third-party app or platform it works alongside. Their names and trademarks belong to their respective owners.
What we do and don't promise
DuckDeck is actively being developed by one person. We can't promise it will be free of bugs, that it will never be interrupted, or that it will work with every possible combination of hardware, drivers and audio software out there. Please back up anything important before installing new software, as you would with any app.
None of that takes away your rights as a consumer. If you bought DuckDeck Pro, Dutch and EU law entitles you to software that matches how we describe it here and on duckdeck.app, and that works as you can reasonably expect it to. If it doesn't, you're entitled to have that put right. Those rights are set by law, we can't sign them away in these terms, and we're not trying to.
So if DuckDeck doesn't do what we said it does, tell us at support@duckdeck.app. We'd rather fix it than argue about it.
Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows, Julian Derksen is not liable for indirect or consequential damage arising from your use of DuckDeck, and liability is limited to what you paid for DuckDeck Pro, if anything.
This never limits liability for death or personal injury, for intent or gross negligence, or anything else that can't be limited by law — and it doesn't affect the consumer rights described above.
Changes
DuckDeck may be updated over time, and these terms may change with it. If we make a meaningful change, we'll update the date at the top of this page.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Netherlands. If you're a consumer, this doesn't take away the protection of the mandatory consumer law of the country you live in: whatever your own law guarantees you, you keep.
If something goes wrong, please email support@duckdeck.app first — most things are sorted out in a message or two. For anything about a payment, a refund or an invoice, Polar is the seller and handles it directly.
